Friday 12th August
Our male peregrine has been perched up in the quarry all afternoon looking well fed and chilled as he surveys his territory. He really is a handsome bird and it always makes my day to see him.
It has almost been a shift system up there today. The female was in the quarry almost all of the morning and in the early afternoon she watched as the male arrived overhead and flew into the quarry then she took to the air and after a brief exchange of recognition calls she flew out of sight.
After a very noisy start to the day the jays have quietened down and have been flitting about and the wee birds have as usual been raiding the feeders constantly. Red squirrels too have been appearing throughout the day and a young visitor this afternoon was determined to get an action shot of one walking along the rope from the feeder. He had to be patient as the squirrel had settled to feast on the peanuts for some time, but he was eventually rewarded and got his photo.
I’m off to lock up now and get a last look for today at that handsome bird who is still just sitting there!
