We have had a recent spate of visits to the cabin and hide by various birds keen to see what we have on offer and the view from our side of the glass.
One morning two swallows came in the front door of the cabin and flew around the area by the monitors, settled briefly on top of one of the interpretation panels and had another wee aerial tour before departing again via the front door (without stopping to sign the visitors' book!)
A juvenile robin however decided to take the back door approach, flying in and over my head while I was busy on the computer. Having checked out our notice boards and wild flower photographs on display he or she left again and headed for the bird seed on the path.
Probably the best encounter though was that experienced by visitors in the top hide late one afternoon when a sparrowhawk decided to fly in through the door and tried to exit by a window…a closed one! Fortunately it was a low impact collision and it quickly regained its composure and flew back out again leaving the visitors thrilled with their close encounter.
So come along and see us soon. You never know what wildlife encounters you might have while you are here!
