Iona writes...

My name is Iona. I am a Junior Volunteer at the Huntly Peregrine Wildwatch. I only started volunteering this year but I have been visiting the centre for about 3 years. I am also a senior member of the ranger club and I am working towards my John Muir Award.

Today I went pond dipping with Cara. Together we caught 6 or 7 newts and a baby newt, a stonefly, mayfly, cadis fly, damselfly, dragonfly larvae, Great diving beetle larva and also lots of other beetle larvae, snail eggs, lots of other bugs and beetles.

When I first came in this morning (aprox 10:20) there was a baby red squirrel and in the afternoon a greater spotted woodpecker both outside the bottom hide. There are also lots of small birds including blue tits, robins, siskin's, greenfinches, chaffinches, great tits, coal tits and loads more.

Also the peregrines have been sighted in and around the quarry most of the day.

Huntly Peregrine Wildwatch is a great place to visit with all the family!!
